How it works
Whether you’re claiming an existing free listing or adding your business from scratch, the process is the same.
- Add your business. Tell us your business name, area, services, and contact details. Upload a few photos of your work. Takes about 10 minutes.
- We review and publish. Free listings go live within 1–3 working days after a quick review (we check the basics — that you’re a real loctician working in the UK).
- You appear in search. Your profile shows up on your city’s page, on the relevant service pages (microlocs, retwists, etc.), and in directory-wide searches.
- Clients reach you direct. Anyone interested contacts you via the methods you listed — Instagram, WhatsApp, phone, booking link. We’re not in the middle, we don’t take a cut, we don’t charge fees per client.

Plenty of clients don’t use Instagram, or don’t find what they’re looking for via hashtags. They use Google. The directory captures that audience.

Loctician.co.uk is for:

We don’t list:
- Locticians outside the UK (we may add international coverage later, but not yet)
- General hair salons that don’t specialise in locs
- Trainees who haven’t completed their training and aren’t yet taking clients
- Anyone we have credible reason to believe isn’t operating legitimately
About the Verified Loctician badge
The Verified badge is available to Featured subscribers and signals to clients that we’ve personally checked your business.
Verification involves:
- Confirming your business is real and currently trading
- Reviewing your portfolio for genuine work (not stock or lifted imagery)
- Optionally, checking 1–2 client references if you provide them
We don’t audit clinical training or specific qualifications. The badge says: “this is a real loctician, the work shown is genuinely theirs, and we have no concerns.”
Verification typically takes 5–7 working days after you submit. Once issued, the badge appears on your profile and on city/service pages where you’re listed.
Common questions
- Can I list my business if I’m new and still building my client base?
- Yes. We list newer locticians as well as established ones. Be honest in your profile about your stage — clients appreciate it, and many are specifically looking for newer locticians at lower prices.
- What if I don’t have a fixed business address?
- Mobile and home-studio locticians are welcome. List your service area (e.g. “Greater London,” “Manchester within 10 miles”) rather than a specific address. Your home address stays private.
- Do I need professional photos?
- No. Phone photos of your work are fine — and often better, because they look authentic. The only thing we ask is that they’re your own work, well-lit enough to see clearly, and you hold the rights to use them.
- Can I have multiple locations or a salon team listed?
- Yes. If you’re a salon with multiple stylists or operate across multiple locations, get in touch about how to structure your listing. Multi-location and salon-group plans are available.
- How do I update my details if my prices, hours, or contact info changes?
- Edit your profile anytime through your account dashboard. Free listings can be updated unlimited times.
- What if I want to leave the directory?
- Email us and we’ll remove your listing within 3 working days. No questions, no friction.
- Do you take a cut of my bookings?
- No. We charge nothing per booking, per client, or per enquiry. Free listings are always free; Featured listings are a flat monthly subscription. Your client relationships are entirely yours.
- Will my contact details be visible to spam bots?
- We protect contact details against scraping where possible (email links use obfuscation, phone numbers can be displayed as click-to-reveal). You can also choose which contact methods to display publicly.
